Hello! My name is Brianne but when I teach Vietnamese, I go by Ngân. I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor’s in Ethnic Studies and a minor in Political Science. I've been tutoring and teaching since 2020 and I've been teaching Vietnamese since 2022.

I've tutored ESL adults on their citizenship tests and translated flyers for the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area. I also tutored middle schoolers on general school subjects. I then taught Vietnamese to 10 - 19 year old students at my local Buddhist temple which gave me the space test out different games and activities to both educate and entertain what I consider to be a very tough crowd. It helps that kids are brutally honest and will tell you in no uncertain terms when they are bored and are not learning. Thanks to them, I've gained the skills that make me confident I can meet anyone at their level and their needs.

I speak in the southern dialect but I will acknowledge the differences in vocabulary and pronunciation in the central and northern dialects as well. Since then, I've taught students of all ages who learn for a variety of reasons including but not limited to reconnecting with family, connecting with a new family they will soon be part of, learning industry-specific language to use for work, and simply learning for the love of Vietnamese culture.

I've greatly enjoyed being a part of everyone's journey in being able to connect with their friends and family. It brings me joy to hear about their progress. I hope I can be a part of your journey, too.
